Choose an answer, explore the explanation, and see why the other options are less suitable. Three short scenarios. No sign-in required.
Monitoring, Logging, Analysis, Remediation, and Performance OptimizationTask 1.1 · Implement metrics, alarms, and filters by using AWS monitoring and logging services.
1. Collecting memory utilization from EC2 instances
An operations team monitors a fleet of Linux EC2 instances in CloudWatch. CPU metrics are available, but the team also needs operating-system memory utilization and application log files from each instance. Which solution best meets the requirement?
- Enable detailed EC2 monitoring and rely only on the additional default EC2 metrics.
- Install and configure the CloudWatch agent to collect memory metrics and application logs.
- Enable AWS CloudTrail data events for every EC2 instance and use them as memory metrics.
- Create an AWS Config rule that records the instance type whenever memory usage changes.
Answer and full explanation
Correct answer: B — Install and configure the CloudWatch agent.
Why B is correct
The CloudWatch agent collects operating-system-level metrics and log files from EC2 instances in addition to the metrics available through standard EC2 monitoring. Memory utilization is an in-guest metric, so it requires collection from the operating system rather than relying only on the default EC2 metric set. SOA-C03 Task 1.1 explicitly includes configuring and managing the CloudWatch agent for workloads such as EC2 instances. The agent can publish both memory metrics and selected application log files to CloudWatch. This provides the observability the operations team needs without changing the workload architecture.
Why the other options are less suitable
- A — Detailed EC2 monitoring: Detailed monitoring increases the frequency of supported EC2 metrics. It does not add guest operating-system memory metrics or automatically collect application log files.
- C — CloudTrail data events: CloudTrail records API and resource activity for auditing. It does not measure operating-system memory utilization or serve as an application log collector for EC2 instances.
- D — AWS Config rule: AWS Config evaluates resource configuration and compliance state. It is not intended to collect continuous memory usage or application log content from inside an instance.
Key takeaway: Use the CloudWatch agent when operations teams need guest-level metrics or log files that are not provided by default service monitoring.

2. Standardizing resources across accounts and Regions
A company must deploy the same baseline CloudFormation-defined resources to dozens of AWS accounts in several Regions. Administrators want to manage the deployment centrally and update all target accounts from the same template. Which AWS feature best fits the requirement?
- Create a separate manually maintained CloudFormation stack in every account and Region.
- Store the template in Amazon S3 and ask each account administrator to deploy it independently.
- Use AWS CloudFormation StackSets to deploy and update stacks across the target accounts and Regions.
- Use an EC2 Auto Scaling group in the administrator account to create resources in every target account.
Answer and full explanation
Correct answer: C — Use AWS CloudFormation StackSets.
Why C is correct
CloudFormation StackSets extends ordinary CloudFormation stacks so one template can be deployed across multiple AWS accounts and Regions. An administrator defines the StackSet centrally and creates stack instances in selected target accounts and Regions. SOA-C03 Task 3.1 explicitly includes provisioning and sharing resources across multiple Regions and accounts, including CloudFormation StackSets. Updating the StackSet can propagate standardized changes to the associated stack instances while preserving centralized administration. This directly matches the requirement for consistent multi-account and multi-Region provisioning.
Why the other options are less suitable
- A — Separate stacks: Individual stacks can deploy the same resources, but manually managing dozens of independent stacks increases administrative effort and configuration drift. The requirement calls for centralized lifecycle management.
- B — Independent administrator deployments: Sharing the template gives each account access to the infrastructure definition, but it does not centrally coordinate deployments or updates. Different administrators could deploy different versions or parameters.
- D — EC2 Auto Scaling: Auto Scaling manages the capacity of compute resources within its configured environment. It is not a cross-account infrastructure provisioning mechanism for arbitrary CloudFormation resources.
Key takeaway: Use CloudFormation StackSets when a common infrastructure template must be managed consistently across multiple AWS accounts and Regions.
Networking and Content DeliveryTask 5.3 · Troubleshoot network connectivity issues.
3. Finding the configuration that blocks a VPC path
An EC2 instance cannot reach a private application endpoint in a connected VPC. The operations team wants a configuration-analysis tool that can evaluate the intended path and identify whether a route table, security group, network ACL, or other component is blocking connectivity. Which tool should the team use?
- VPC Reachability Analyzer
- AWS Cost Explorer
- Amazon Inspector
- AWS Artifact
Answer and full explanation
Correct answer: A — VPC Reachability Analyzer.
Why A is correct
VPC Reachability Analyzer performs configuration analysis between a specified source and destination in supported VPC network paths. When the destination is reachable, it shows hop-by-hop path details; when it is not reachable, it identifies the blocking component. AWS documentation specifically lists route tables, security groups, network ACLs, and load balancers as examples of configurations that can block a path. SOA-C03 Task 5.3 focuses on troubleshooting VPC and private-connectivity issues and includes tools for analyzing network behavior. Reachability Analyzer therefore directly addresses the requested configuration-level diagnosis.
Why the other options are less suitable
- B — AWS Cost Explorer: Cost Explorer analyzes AWS cost and usage trends. It does not evaluate packet paths or identify VPC configuration components that prevent connectivity.
- C — Amazon Inspector: Inspector assesses workloads for software vulnerabilities and unintended network exposure. It is not the primary path-analysis tool for diagnosing a specific source-to-destination VPC connectivity failure.
- D — AWS Artifact: Artifact provides AWS compliance reports and agreements. It does not inspect network routes, security groups, or network ACLs.
Key takeaway: Reachability Analyzer helps operators determine whether a VPC path is reachable and which configuration blocks it when it is not.

Your questions, answered.
Which AWS operations exam do these practice questions target?
These questions target AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer – Associate SOA-C03, the current version of AWS’s associate-level operations certification. SOA-C03 replaced the older SysOps Administrator – Associate SOA-C02 blueprint beginning September 30, 2025. Before purchase or exam day, confirm that SOA-C03 appears on your booking because older SOA-C02 material has different domains and weightings. The current guide is Version 1.1, published June 1, 2026.
Who is SOA-C03 practice intended for?
It is intended for CloudOps engineers and related operations professionals who deploy, manage, troubleshoot, secure, and maintain AWS workloads. AWS recommends about one year of AWS experience covering deployment, management, troubleshooting, networking, and security, plus roughly one year in a related operations role. Familiarity with scripting, operating systems, containers, CI/CD, AWS monitoring, infrastructure as code, networking, databases, and cloud financial management is also useful.
How should I combine SOA-C03 practice with hands-on study?
Use practice questions alongside the official exam guide and your own AWS operations exercises. Work with CloudWatch agents and alarms, CloudTrail, Systems Manager, AWS Config, Auto Scaling, RDS, backups, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, StackSets, EventBridge, IAM, VPC endpoints, Route 53, CloudFront, Reachability Analyzer, and cost/performance tools. SOA-C03 focuses on operational implementation and troubleshooting, so practical familiarity with service behavior is valuable alongside conceptual review.
What should I do when I answer an SOA-C03 question incorrectly?
Use the explanation to identify the exact operational requirement you missed, then revisit the matching task and skill in the AWS guide. Determine whether the mistake involved monitoring, remediation, performance, resiliency, infrastructure provisioning, automation, security, networking, or troubleshooting. Compare each distractor against the scenario’s constraints rather than memorizing an answer letter. A practice result can reveal weak areas, but it should not be treated as a guaranteed prediction of your official exam outcome.
What question formats appear on the official SOA-C03 exam?
AWS uses multiple-choice and multiple-response questions. The official guide says 50 questions affect the score and 15 additional questions are unscored, with unscored items not identified during the test. These three preview questions use single-answer multiple choice because that is the interaction supported by this widget, so they do not reproduce official multiple-response questions or establish which additional formats or features are included in the paid ExamsDigest product.
Does completing this practice earn AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer - Associate?
No. Completing an ExamsDigest practice product does not award the AWS certification or replace AWS’s official testing process. Practice access, scheduling SOA-C03, taking the exam through an authorized Pearson VUE testing option, and earning the credential are separate activities. AWS currently lists SOA-C03 as schedulable and states that the certification is valid for three years once earned through the official certification process.
